                                                    SEASONING

2/24/2015

As a girl, I ate
My sandwiches
s  l  o    w

Partly, I liked
To savor the flavors -
cheese and turkey,, salty
chips, and the heart-filling
pause between bites.

Partly I liked
To savor the time
With the parent or sibling
Assigned to my side
While I took in the taste
Of their company.

Later in life, It was
lovers, and breakfast.
I’d seduce them
To hang on my
sensuous tongue as they
oggled my worship
of bacon.

Now, I eat scones
All alone at my desk —
And it takes me an hour
To enjoy them.
